Hello! Welcome to a review on trauma rays latest EP, Carnival. Released on the 20th of February, I have had a couple of days to properly sit down with it and savor it.
I am more of a fan of rap, but I do have to admit that this EP really filled a missing hole in me for more alternative rock music. The music really encapsulates the feeling of the EP cover, with dark guitar riffs, low vocals and matching lyricism.
The first track, "carousel", is a more lo-fi, digestible slow tune. None of the tracks on this EP are high energy, but this track definitively doesn't match the energy of the rest of this project. Continuing on with the topic of it being an outlier, it is also the shortest track on the EP, not even reaching 2 minutes. "carousel" definitively serves as a good introduction track to this EP, even though it doesn't match the energy.
The second track, "Hannibal", starts to bring more energy to it. It starts of relatively strong, with a familiar feeling guitar riff, and very indie vocals. It takes a little downtime sometime in the middle of the track, giving a little bit more peace and quiet before returning back to, what I believe to be, the better part of the track, with more complimenting instruments than originally. The ending of "Hannibal" is the type of ending I really love, stripping the track of its core components until it leaves a raw guitar, until it dies off.
The third track, "Méliès", definitively comes on way stronger, with the same kind of gritty guitars, and drums that do not give any reason to write home to. The vocals continue on a lower tone.
