Just when you think you know exactly what a Foo Fighters record sounds like, Dave Grohl flips the script. After a week of cryptic teasers involving an interactive "messy bedroom" website, the rock titans have officially confirmed their 12th studio album: Your Favorite Toy, arriving on April 24, 2026.

If 2023’s But Here We Are was a masterclass in processing grief, the title track for the new record, released alongside the announcement, is a defiant pivot toward "noisy, loud bangers." Grohl describes the track as the "key" that unlocked the album's energetic direction.

Fans on Reddit and social media are already noting a different vibe:

  • The Vocals: Grohl is trading his signature anthemic roar for a more "sardonic" and "biting" tone.
  • The Groove: This marks the first full-length recording with Ilan Rubin (Nine Inch Nails, Angels & Airwaves) behind the kit. His "dance-forward" influence is felt immediately in the title track’s relentless pulse.
  • The Production: Recorded entirely at Grohl’s home and co-produced with Oliver Roman, the 10-track project feels raw, immediate, and intentionally less polished than their recent stadium-sized efforts.

The announcement comes right on the heels of Grohl’s candid interview with Zane Lowe, where he finally addressed the firing of former touring drummer Josh Freese. Grohl clarified that the decision "didn’t happen overnight" and was a collective band choice to pursue a "new direction." With Freese returning to Nine Inch Nails and Rubin officially taking the mantle for this new era, the Foos finally seem settled.

The band isn't wasting any time getting these songs in front of crowds. This week, they’re playing a trio of "tiny" surprise shows in Dublin, London, and Manchester (which sold out in minutes via box office queues). This leads into a massive 2026 stadium run featuring:

  • North America: Stadium dates with Queens of the Stone Age and Mannequin Pussy.
  • Global Stops: A special symphonic show at the Hollywood Bowl with Gustavo Dudamel in August, followed by an Australian tour in November.
